Miller loved it, and so did his brother. But i bet the kids in the neighborhood didn't. Halloween was cancelled here!!!

Well I had been working on my offerings for the big TDIPT open house when the storm hit. So i'm a little late. And you know when you are rushing, things just don't work out smoothly, but here i am, hitting the breaks now, and happy to say that my offerings are finished!

I can't believe how fast this Summer is flying by! I'm popping in to let you know what I am offering on the TDIPT website this month.

First I have this pretty, table top quilt. Perfect for all year, even Christmas, due to the color combination. Would look great on a table as I have displayed it, with a bowl in the center, you could hang her on a wall, or you could even use her under your favorite, little tree at Christmas.

Next I have these two pinkeeps made from pretty sets I have found at antique stores.

Happy Fourth of July Everyone!

Wanted to let you know what i've been up to lately.

I just finished up a special order for two monkeys, using the girls' favorite colors, etc.. Sunnie and Bubbles have been re-homed, and are having a blast.

Next, while stuffing my monkeys, for some reason, i thought of chickens. So with that, I created BJ, my corny game hen. BJ is still available at the TDIPT mercantile. He is SO cute, i think i'll be doing more chickens. So BJ will be number 01.

pssst... can you see a theme here? I'm suddenly quite fond of TEETH!!!!!!

And lastly, I have decided to take orders on Pet Portraits. I will paint a primitive likeliness of your pet. Portraits will be done on 8x10 canvas. Three week lead time as of right now. Email me for other details: chickadee-primitives@hotmail.com

June is Here!

June is here and I am just getting my garden in! I say better late than never!

I'm having fun learning how to do new things, like quilts, and I love it! I meet up with a group every week and we quilt together. It's been great meeting new people and sitting around our big table and chatting.

This month on Simply Primitives I am offering one of my doll quilts. This is a miniature version of the Rail Fence.

Made with quality quilter's fabrics, mostly Moda and Marcus Bros. I love Judie Rothermel's designs.

I've been struggling with photos due to the weather here in New England. And these photos don't do her justice. You will love her in person! Of course I always accept returns!

I'm also offering one of my limited reproductions of Abigail. Number 8, done on heavy canvas and mounted into this hand made frame. A great size for any room!

A new year is like a new pair of sneakers. It almost makes you feel invincible. Like you can suddenly run faster and do more, like all is well with the world. It's a fresh start, donning a super hero cape.

Every year, folks make promises to themselves to be more healthy, work harder, lose weight, etc.. And somehow, as much as I try not to follow the herd, I find myself making my own promises.

So my list this year includes the typical: be more healthy, work harder, lose weight, say no more often, go outside the box creatively, and take time for myself, which is the hardest of all.

As the great, Dr. Seuss said, "Today you are you, that is truer than true. There is no one alive that is you-er than you!"

This year, make a promise to take special care of You!! My kitties sure do!

November 15th Offerings at Simply Primitives

It's that time again friends!

This month for Simply Primitives, I have some Christmas inspired pieces to share.

Charlie is a one of a kind Snowman.

He's about 15" tall, and made using my own pattern.

His head is crafted from a gourd and paper clay, and he is cute as a button!

You will absolutely love Charlie in person. :)

Beeswax Santa

This guy is very heavily scented with cinnamon and cloves, and i've added rusty bells and some boxwood to give him dimension. He's a great addition to your primitive, holiday decor!

November first already!!!

At TDIPT, we are celebrating Christmas early, with a Colonial Christmas theme. Come to our open house and sign up for our mailing list and automatically become elegible to win one of our fantastic door prizes! You also become elegible to win when you make a purchase from the site this month.

Here is what I have to offer for the event:

Primitive Black Doll

Using an old, folk doll for inspiration, I created this simple gal using some natural, linen blend fabric. She wears a dress that I constructed from Marcus Bros. Colonial Christmas fabric. This is absolutely the most gorgeous fabric ever!

I took the suggestion from my famous cohorts to lightly dye the dress and the undergarments to drab the color down a bit and give it a look of age. I am so happy with how they turned out.

As you can see, i have primitively stitched her features and have given her a red, cotton, appliqued mouth with more primitive stitching. I have also given her criss cross stitching in leux of hair.

She's 18" tall.

Next up, I am offering one of my limited, giclee reproductions. Evelyn has been reproduced onto heavy, artist canvas at a local studio.

I have mixed some oils and antiqued the portrait before placing her into this tabletop frame.

She measures 12 x 14 framed.

Before I head to the studio, where i'll be locked in for the next few days, I wanted to keep you current in the Chickadee world.

My First Class!

Being held at Meeting House Fabrics in Wales, MA.

We'll be doing a primitive belsnickel, done in all wool, with a clay face and a burlap backpack. I created this pattern, similar to my other Belsnickel,specifically for this class. Just one seat open!

Chickadee Chalkware!

I've always loved chalkware pieces. So i decided to try my hand at pouring my own! Here is a peek at my very first piece that I created start to finish! Cute size on these too! Great for hanging on a cupboard, etc..

He's fairly bossy, and is pressing for a feather collar and a solid black jumpsuit with holiday sneakers.

Moomoo is a sweetheart. He'll be standing, wearing either this ivory color in a jumpsuit style, or a brown with multicolored dot.

Simply Primitives October 15th Offerings

Hello Friends!

Meet James. He is our mascot this week at Simply Primitives. He is 13" tall and made from my own pattern.

His head is paper mache, and he has a real gourd stem on top. I've painted him out in layers to achieve depth and texture, and given him simple features.

His jumpsuit is made from this festive holiday fabric that I just love! And i've given him a polka dot ruffle to compliment his suit.

He stands on his own wood base, and carries a hand formed Jack.

If you don't absolutely love litte James, please send him straight back to his momma, and she will gladly refund you. :)

Primitive Halloween Sign

Here is a nice sign that I created using two stencils and some hand painting. I've distressed and antiqued it as well.

Simply Primitive Portraits

Hello friends!

It's just about that time again, when I need to get my art together for my wonderful online galleries.

These portraits will be available on the 15th, on Simply Primitives.

First, it's been a long time, but I was inspired to do a new painting. Tessa was painted on stretched canvas, and has been lightly distressed and antiqued to add this patina.

I absolutely love this frame, with its rope moulding. I think it suits this portrait perfectly. Painting is 8 x 10, and the frame adds about 2.5" on all sides.

Giclee Reproduction of Ella (limited)

Ella was reproduced onto heavy, watercolor paper at a giclee studio. She is in this nice, tabletop frame that i feel compliments her well. Measures 5x7 without the frame.

Nostalgic Primitive Santa

I created this Santa without a pattern, and he is one of a kind. He's got a clay face and stands 14" tall.

Snowman Box

Made from my own pattern, this box measures 4.5" and the snowman stands 8 inches tall. He is adorned with bingo papers, vintage mica flakes, vintage tinsel, and is hand painted.

Yesterday I decided to keep the ball rolling, so I pulled out one of my Halloween Gameboards that I worked so hard on last Fall. I used that great stencil that was circling around, but I also added hand-painted touches to make them one of a kind.

I've been busy working on my gardens. I just love it!!! Putting my hands in the dirt makes me happy!

Mid Month Offerings

It's that time of month again. Boy does time fly! Hope you remembered to Spring Ahead last night!!

I love my new bunny. I am also offering the pattern for her. I would rate it fairly easy, possibly my easiest pattern to date. She is simple and clean, and very much says Spring is in the Air!!! You will find her at Simply Primitives tomorrow morning!

I will be listing this pattern in my Annex! She can be made to look more primitive by using different colors, etc..

My next offering for Simply Primitives are these cute, bunny boxes. They are the perfect size for candy. If you were to add a coordinating Easter grass, and a few, delicious chocolates in each, they would make a really cute gift for a friend. Sides are done in applied papers, and the portraits are my own. These are very cute in person..

I'll take some additional pictures of these today. They have a lot of little details that i'd like you to see.

Now, for Early Works Mercantile, I came up with a unique idea for a painting. I like how it turned out, and I especially love my frame, thanks to my uncle Ernie. This painting is done on wood, and is one of a kind. Still a little wet in the photos. Painting is 11 x 14 not counting the frame.

Birds of a Feather Group Auction on FEEbay

Sometimes you need a kick in the behind. And my group, very eloquently did that for me...without even knowing it.

To Dwell In Primitive Thymes (TDIPT) is doing a group listing on ebay. All things with wings, and especially birds.

I was looking at the items already listed, and I was drooling. I just might have to make a few unforseen purchases this week! Everything is so lovely!

Oh Yes I Did!

I closed my ebay store!

Will I occasionally sell on ebay? Yes!

But for now, I have decided to make a point, and let ebay know (in a grain of sand sort of way) that they cannot get away with their big shot ways without concequence.

So I guess this means I better get serious about getting a website ready!

In the meantime, I will sell on etsy, and on my galleries every month. And occasionally, on ebay, in auction style format, along with my artsy sisters.

And, of course, I will start to offer things here, in my dusty, little, Chickadee Annex.

Now, how about an update on Miller Blue!

Miller is approximately 7 months old, granting that the information that he was surrendered with is accurate.

His Mama was finally adopted and will undergo a complete hip replacement using funds raised by the RI SPCA. Orthopedists say this is due to a trama, poor thing. She's only three! Miller's sister has been found to have a broken rib that went unattended as well, and has healed improperly. So it's safe to say that they were definately abused, as well as neglected, and it makes me so angry!

Miller has probably tripled in weight since we got him in December. I realized last night, while watching him sleep, his intercostals (in between ribs) has grown. He had no real rib cage when he got here...his little body was very "flat". He looked like he was 120 years old, and his eyes had no expression. He could have passed for a stuffed dog.

Now he's got little buns, and little muscles all over. He makes funny, chirping and howling noises when I am preparing his supper. But he is still frightened when I have the food dish in my hands..He's finishing up his first puppy class, where we opted for socialization in leux of obedience. He has made HUGE strides! So we will be doing another puppy class, and this time, focusing on obedience more, as he is now a typical, and somewhat manic, puppy.

Here's a picture of Miller and his big brother, Marshall, after knocking me over onto the floor as I tried to get a picture of them..

Aren't we all lucky to have found one another...

I am longing for Spring! I bet you all are too, especially if you're a New Englander!!

I waited for supplies I needed for my Early Works piece, but to my dismay, they haven't come. So i will be on vacation from the site this month. Please go by and enjoy the beautiful things created by my "sisters" though. They are all unique and amazing!

Peekaboo Bunny is my first offering for Simply Primitives. I am selling the pattern as well, if you want to give him a whirl. He is as cute as a button, and perfect for Spring and Easter decor.

And I love this tissue box. Inspired by the vintage graphic added to it, painted in a soft, seafoam green, with a white ruffle for fun. Great for Easter, and you could use it through the Spring as well..all year if you have a chic or victorian home.

For TDIPT, I decided to try my hand at an old style Valentine portrait. Pieces using seashells were made by sailors back in the day, and sent home to their loved ones. Here is my version, building from my own, original, sillhouette portrait, still wet in the photo..

Deedee always said that snow was "Poor Man's Fertilizer." Well we have some great expectations for the perennials this year!

Between puppy play, shoveling snow, and cleaning up after a house load of monkeys (my two young pups)I managed to come up with a few items to share this month.

My Green Heart

Just before my Deedee went into the hospital, I came across a puppy that had a green heart on his listing. He was a special needs boy, who had been kept in a crate with his littermates, in a garage that had no windows, for the first four months of his life!

He had no human contact to speak of, and when he was surrendered to the RI SPCA, he had "malformed legs", from his lack of using them. He is extremely fearful of humans.

Following three visits to the shelter, and Deedee's passing, we adopted this puppy.

We decided to name him Miller, after her maiden name that she was so proud of; Blue, after her eyes.

He is a wonderful, little guy, who once had a very hard life, but is lucky enough to have found a family that will enable him to enjoy the rest of his life, in a way that, perhaps, he could have never dreamed.

Farewell My Brave and Beautiful Chickadee...

It is with a heavy heart that I have to say goodbye to my best friend and grandmother, Deedee.

She was my hero. She never met a stranger. She was the most giving person I have ever known. She never held a grudge, and smiled through even the toughest times.

Born into a family of 18 children, Deedee was humble and strong. She would give you her last slice of bread and somehow make you feel good about it.

I will miss her sun-dappled hands, and her love for getting them dirty. I will miss driving with her in the country, and doting on every tree. I will miss everything about my little cotton-haired beauty...my Chickadee.

I was one of very few, fortunate to see the young girl behind her cloak of "The Strong Woman." If I could have picked her up, and cradled her in my arms, I would have. She made each one of her children and grandchildren feel special and unique. She taught us to find solace in the woods, and in hard work, and that a house is a house until you fill it with love, and let mother nature do the rest.

I am so very proud of my grandmother. The world is a different place for me now, but I will focus on the gift that I had of being connected to her the way I have been. I was lucky enough, in later years, to hold her hand, and give back to her a fraction of what she gave to me. I was more fortunate, still, that I had a chance to tell her I loved her again and again, and in the end, that she was my hero.

She is my star flower, my wintergreen berry, my lady slipper...

...She is my Princess in the Pines.

Fall Decorating, Show Prep, and a gift of Freedom...

I have been very busy getting ready for my first show. It's been great, as I have a brand new studio to do it in, and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it!!!!

I "really" started decorating for Fall a couple of days ago. I bought some mums last week, while they were on sale, and a few pumpkins.

While I was cleaning up, getting ready for football friends, I pulled out a few, Fall things and put them out. And as I shopped for football food, I stopped by my favorite farm to get some squash. This farm still has an honor box!!! xo

So I thought i'd share some pictures with you, and hope that you'll do the same! I need some help with some areas, so post some photos on your blogs so that I can get some new ideas!

MMMMM MMM! Don't you love Fall in New England? I do!

Humble Arts is on Vacation this month. Lots of our group members have shows and such. Let's wish them luck! My first show is next month, and i'm getting excited!!!

So for TDIPT (To Dwell In Primitive Times) this month, I will be offering three items.

I have this cute and vintage inspired pumpkin doll. He's made from flannel and a hand sculpted, clay head, with a real pumpkin stem.

And how about this cute pumpkin gal?. She's purely primitive, and wears a homespun dress, adorned with my flea market find trim! I love this trim, and wish they had more. She's a makedo, so she stands nicely, and is perfect to add to or create a Fall vignette from. She's got a beaded grin and wool with beads for eyes. She also wears a real pumpkin stem.

Lastly, for Christmas, I created this simple, standing Belsnickel. He has a wood form inside of his body and is weighted a bit to make him stand nicely. He has wool hair and trim, and wears a Pine tree with a rusty bell added, on his cloak.

Now get out there, and go for a walk. It's a beautiful day!!!

I'm sitting on my front yard, sipping some delicious espresso blend. It's 6:30 a.m., and there are more crickets than birds.

Marshall is playing "Find the stick, in between high speed kitty chases," while Frank and Willie are playing, "Get away from Doggie!"

And I'm looking at today as a new beginning of sorts.

Most of you DON'T know, that I was entertaining the thought of opening a small cafe with my cousin. I was going to leave Chickadee Primitives behind, and venture out, into something i've always wanted to do.

Smack dab, in the middle of a rather hostile and complicated lease negotiation, we suddenly lost our sweetest Nonnie.

At 94, most say, "Oh, well she lived a long and happy life." But when you speak to someone just hours before they "move on", and they are their typical self; as happy as a spring chipmunk, and healthy as a horse, it is very much a shock.

Nonnie was one of my biggest fans. She believed in Chickadee Primitives from the start, and told me that she prayed each day for my success.

Yesterday, the lease for the cafe fell through, and it was a relief, as I was starting to ask myself if it really was in my heart to change paths.

So today, I am making lists. I am getting re-organized, and breathing new air into Chickadee Primitives. It feels good, and it feels right, and I'm thinking Nonnie has something to do with it.

I am wearing her fuzzy robe as we speak.

You know i'm a dreamer..

And this year, I dreamed of a green yard with flowers!

So here are some photos and tips on yard design on a dime!

We worked on this wall and steps last Fall. We had saved every rock we found while excavating to build the house. We were lucky to find some large flat ones, and tried to keep them close by for just this purpose!

And this is the front a couple of weeks ago. Click on the picture to see Marshall running wildly at Big Will in the tree, and Frankie just sits and looks at him like he's nuts behind the rock there.

My newest bed still has a lot of work to go, but it's turning out nice for a novice!

I made the bench from an old door i've hung on to, and some large pieces of the trunk of a tree we lost during the ice storm. I just took my screw gun out there, rolled them out of the woods, and screwed the door down. haha..what would Martha say?

I have other beds going, but I don't want to bore you. So here are some tips:

1. I rarely left the house without a shovel. I have dug up so many nice things, including Lillies, Lady slipper (shh), wild Iris, tons of moss, and other neat things, especially for my shade garden.

2. I purchased perennials from local folks. Whenever I saw a sign up for plants, I'd go to their house, and i've ended up with LOTS of things this way. One man sold huge buckets of numerous plants for 5.00, and most of my hosta are from a gal here in town who cuts from her own plants, at 2.00!!!!!!! Huge, beautiful hostas! And her husband made wood lawn ornaments, like the beautiful wheelbarrow on my front yard. Very good price, and nicely done with an old, metal wheel!

3. I bought all of my perennials last year at the end of Fall. They were ugly, but cheap. Because of the good soil we had here, they tripled. Some I were able to take half of and move them to fill in.

4. I bought some plants at Lowes and others at the grocery store...when they were on sale, or buy one get one only. And I kept a mental note of what color and height i wanted in specific areas, i.e., sun, shade, etc..I also purchased at farmer's markets..I got my Solomon Seal at a farmer's market! I love that stuff!!!

5. I accept gifts. hehe My mother has given me plants, my brother dug me up a beautiful Jack in the Pulpit, a landscaper friend GAVE us the leftovers from his bark mulch jobs...!!!

6. Instead of the expense of electrical work, we opted for solar lights going up the stairs. They work great, and are a thrill to see every time I see them. I purchased those for pennies at a discount store.

7. Don't be afraid to take things from indoors to fill in spaces. I use chairs, pails, metal birdcages and even a clock in places to fill in.

I put my bunny house on stilts and created a cute vignette from it. Mr. Bibbles prefers to be indoors, so I got lucky! My brother made me the house for my birthday.

8. Most importantly, do the work yourself! Don't be afraid!

And for those of you who don't know, we lost our Oldie Girl, Ginger just recently. It is very sad not to see her face. But we are lucky to live in the country, and have made her a special resting place. I purchased a customized "house" sign, rather than a memory stone, as I wanted something with her name on it. It was a fraction of the cost too, and looks so beautiful, in my opinion. RIP my sister..xo

So for those of you who follow my blog, and have been wondering what i've been up to..this is a small example. hehe

My first Still Life!

Can you see the sweat on my brow?

I wanted to do something challenging this month for The Early Mercantile Gathering. So while flipping through my old books, outside at my little fold-up table, with Marshall pulling out freshly planted herbs, I saw a painting that I thought I'd try and emulate. The original was one called, "A Basket of Flowers" from 1830.

About three hours into this painting, I almost decided to give up. But I'm glad I didn't. I really like the way it turned out. Not sure how many of this type i'll do, but here she is nonetheless.

It's time to get things done this month for my new group, Early Mercantile Gathering. I'm working on a new painting that I'll be offering on the 15th of the month.

I'm new to gardening. I used to help my Grandmother, Deedee plant her huge garden each spring. We planted potatoes, watermelon, "musk melon", corn, you name it!

But since we have both forgotten how to plant, it's all new to me now. It's hit or miss, and i'm learning every day. It's so much fun, and Marshall helps me to learn, as he digs up most things I plant, so they have to be planted again. UGGHh!!!

But Mommie got smart, and got him a pool.

And I have to show you these beautiful birdhouses I bought for myself from Marshall. They are so nice, I just LOVE them!!!!!! I got them from a nice gal on ebay. Here is her store: Olde American Primitives

Happy Spring Everyone!

I was just outside this morning, drinking my coffee, while Marshall did his potty training, and noticed my perennials are sprouting!!! I'm new to gardening, and we just put our lawn in last year, after living in dirt and rocks for five years, so the green popping through gets me giddy!

This coming wednesday is April first, and my friends are all working hard to get ready for some nice, Spring offerings. Make sure to stop by, to all of the links listed under "find my work here", on April Fools, to look at the nice work these gals do.

In the meantime, Marshall and I will continue to work on his "obedience" haha, and my perennials will continue to make me smile.

I'm having so much fun getting decorated for Christmas. I chuckle each time I think about putting up a tree this year. I have 6 monkeys in the house. Frank and Willie make up 5, and Mr. Bibbles is one monkey by himself...and that's only because he doesn't come upstairs much anymore.

So my family left, and Willie is mourning, because he fell in love with Nonnie, our 94 (today) year old grandmother. I never saw Willie give that much sincere affection to anything, other than his food.

I've been inspired to try something new, and something with a vintage charm.

So last week, before our girls' first "craft night", I started his head. Waited two days, then created his personality, or at least I think.

My aunt, mother, and three cousins, decided to get together once a week to do a project. After visiting me at my show, they wanted to learn how to make some of the things I offered there.

I'll be happy when we get to something I don't know...but until then, I have my teacher hat on.

So...here he is so far. I have to put buttons on him, and do something about his feet...but he has been a true joy to work on. Willie was such a good boy, until I left the room for few minutes...my husband said, "UH, ANNE ???" In his best, you're in trouble, voice. "I just pulled 3 feet of ribbon out of Willie's throat!" And the whole time he pulled, Willie tried to bat at the ribbon, as if this was the most fun he'd had in weeks...

I love my spray painted hand in this picture...never noticed it til I was in the bath..lol

18, 19, 20...ready or not, here I come!

I have been in hiding lately. Part of it is giving most of my attention to my old friend, Ginger. She needs lots of me now, and I take the time to give her what she needs. She's the best old gal, I just love her to bits. Sometimes I put my hands on her, and close my eyes, and focus all of the love I have into her. I know she feels it deep down, and maybe for that tiny moment, her joints don't ache, and her muscles aren't tired...

So I made a phone call two weeks ago, and dove in feet first. I committed myself to two weeks of hard work, to take me away from my heartache for Ginger. And it paid off more than I could have imagined. It's nice to be reminded that people are inherently good.

It was nice to see some familiar faces, and to meet some new ones too. It set my week off straight, so now, as long as the Pats win tonite, the day will be perfect! And Ginger was smiling when I got home...

And for those of you who think I keep an immaculate house, here is a picture of my studio along the way. Willie is taking a nap here...show prep is very tiring to putty tats.

Okay, this post should be named, "Design on a Dime."

I'm such a cheepskate when it comes to me!

I took every single Joanne's coupon with me, and marched into the Daffodil Days sale at Joanne's Fabrics, with my Spring mantel in mind.

TaDA! Here she is! I spent 20.00!

I used my 50% off coupon on these topiaries, and the clay pots were on sale. I just printed out some wording onto plain paper, and tore them out. Tea stained them up, and viola! I planned to white wash the terra cotta, but I thought they were fine the way they were. They contrast the white wall behind them.

More clay pots, with inexpensive houses. I drilled holes into the bottoms, and stuck them into the pots too. I need to paint them, but don't know what color yet. Any suggestions?

Here's my woodbox, all dolled up. I have my grandfather's carved birdie in front, and some naturals in back. Jean, from Bluejeanprimitives sent me this cute wax basket with flax and eggs. Sharon from Homespunheartprimitives
made it.

This time of day, the sun shoots through the back of the house, and illuminates the rose window...I love it.

Since I moved my sweet dollie from the woodbox, I had to find a place to put her. And since I moved my crock filled with lavender to the mantel, she had a place that suited her just fine.

I took one of my husband's birthday cards and tacked it to the beam here. The picture looks almost identical to my little dog, and so I put this here for her. Frank is more amused with it than she is.

And the moral of this story is: "It's never too late to live happily ever after."

I'm back from the gloomies, and ready to get working!

It's frustrating to make your living with your heart in your hands, because sometimes big girl life gets in the way, and you just can't create!

Thankfully, I am inspired by the gals who surround me in my cyber world. I can feel my creativity blossoming every minute thanks to them! Thank you all for just being you!

I was gazing at Mr. Bibbles the other day, and decided to make a rendition of him...he's going to be a present for my husband...Whatcha think?

Here is a picture of a project I did for myself. I had some scrap lumber from building the house, actually part of one of my interior doors, so I painted it up. This was 2 years ago. Well some of you know that I was able to purchase my grandparents' door to the home they first built to raise their family in. This is the hardware to that door. It was broken, and so I replaced it, but was adamant about saving it. My husband thinks I'm a pack rat. Well during my latest cleaning frenzy, I found it, and decided to apply it to something so that it would not get misplaced...I think it makes a neat assemblage piece.

And here is my "oldie girl". Ginger was a little pup when we rescued her...now she's 14. She's my buddy.

I hope you have a healthy, prosperous, happy-snappy New Year!!!!!

It's snowing here today, and SO pretty outside! Glad I just washed my snowsuit!

Here is one reason I love Chickadees so much...

They are tiny, but fearless!!!

My house is finally clean enough to take a few pictures of the mantel, and new fireplace screen.

Here's our old kitty, Carrot, enjoying the fire last year. We miss him so...

And here is one of my favorite gifts this year. An old clock that came from an old friend who is no longer with us. My mom had it fixed up, and it chimes on the hour. I love it.

Below the clock on the shelf is an antique bottle with my father's sunglasses hanging. My sister gave them to me last year at Christmas. I met my father 10 years ago, and he was very sick. He passed rather quickly, and his glasses were his trademark.

Even though Christmas has turned into a busy and stressful time of year for lots of us, I'm happy to say that there is still some old fashioned sentiment left...

...I think i'll take that with me to the Next Year.

I look at my unsold items and think...

thank goodness!

Like Estella, who rests quietly in my spare bedroom...gazing upward at the small circle of stars i've painted around the chandelier...

Or my Bun, who jumps joyfully over his rosehips again and again, enjoying the sun and fresh breeze from the window in my bath.

And my recent favorite, Izannah with her "fancy" frame. I've hung her in my special cubby, just before the entrance to my bedroom.

And Mr. Tom, who, still embarrassed by his white foot, hangs on the wall in my loft, next to the pocket window that leads to Estella.

I've got one of my woodland angels left, and i've decided to keep her. She sits in my overly-decorated bath, humming her mantra, taking in the kaleidoscope of colors from the rose window.

We just love our window, although I am anxious to paint the side facing the great room to match the wall...

Well, I made it through a VERY busy time. Everyone in my family has been feeling a little neglected. I have spoiled them far too much, and when "mommie" is busy, and they don't get her 2 million percent, they miss it!

Today's list...groceries, clean, give extra love, order supplies, mail sold items, update my blog (for Jean), send in my pics and descripts to my first of the month gals on Simply Primitives, Humble Arts and TDIPT Mercantile...blah blah blah. Most importantly, give extra love.

So here are some photos of the Big Show. I met some wonderful gals who know me from the cyber world...what a treasure that was!! Thanks so much for comming!!!!! It made my whole week!~

Here we are before the bell rang the first day. I was not happy to see the other vendors had come back all showered up and dressed to impress. I might have looked like I was in my Jammies! lol My mom and my hubby tell me "you look artsy."

A Doll and a Cat

A Doll:

I bought this doll on ebay, with the intention of painting her up. I dug through my flea market doll clothes stash, and found this cute top! And I remembered I had a pair of pantiloons that I made from an old linen...so she's lookin' so cute now! I just love her! So tiny!

The Cat:

Before you see the pictures, note that I have a sign on my house that says, "This house gaurded by shotgun 5 days a week. You guess which 5" Ha ha...well that's not true, that's a sign my grandparents used to have on their little house. I always loved that...

Anyway, Mr. Frank is so gorgeous, I dont want anyone to get any funny ideas about trying to kidnap him...but here he is, showing off his lovely spots. ZZZZZZzzzzzzz

I have now given up on my heart attack sessions each time Frankie climbs up onto the beams. I have realized that there is nothing I can do. He's a cat, and unless I build walls, he will get to them.

SO here he sits, 6 feet above my head, watching me cook supper for his two sisters. Yes...I cook for my dogs. Ground turkey...very rare.

This leads me to tell you a story about what happened while MOMMY was away at the workshop last week.

For some reason, MR. Frank is infatuated with the fridge. One night, while cooking supper, I heard him crying, and he was on the bottom shelf.

So as I left for Vermont, I kindly reminded my DH about this infatuation...to which he replied the typical..."Honey, don't worry. He won't get into the fridge or the blender or the toilet...relax."

And the call came in on Saturday at 4:30. "Frankie is fine...but he'd been in the fridge for 9 and a half hours."

Trash to Treasure

My family and I built this house for 4 years, following a design we drew up on paper. Sometimes, i'd get out of bed at night, living 30 miles away in a dangerous city, and drive out here just to see the moon beams falling down upon her. I dreamed of living here.

Yesterday, my DeeDee and me, tea stained some buntings and hung them up. She has no short term memory, and was footing the ladder for me. One time, when I felt as if I might fall, I looked down to see her casually dusting off the bottom two rungs. Ha ha ha...we had a nice day.

When I went back into the house, I realized the buntings made a pretty treatment from the inside too.

We were so proud of ourselves! And ignored my husband's pleas to NOT put holes in the house.

This morning, I took some more pictures around the house.

Here's one of my shelving unit in the loft. It houses an old oven that my grandfather bought me on the side of the road. Inside is where I keep my stereo.

On top, is an old mantel clock from my Aunt Ida. She's gone now, and was my DeeDee's favorite sister.

But the prize is at the very top.

I bought this little Minerva on eb@y a couple of weeks ago. When I got her home, I wasn't as thrilled with her as I usually am with my castaway dolls. So I hung her up in my studio, and promised her daily that I would make her spirit shine.

Last night, while working on Estella and sipping Chardonay, I took the little Minerva down and removed her clothing. What I found beneath was, to me, quite beautiful. What I didn't like was the cool tone of her skin against the warm, aged plum color of her body.

So I grabbed my toolbox and chose my paint and repainted her sweet face with a hit or miss type of painting method. Then I hand rubbed her prominent features down and antiqued her. This is how she looks now.

Finally, I added a rusty safety pin and a Sworavski Crystal heart, a kiss on the cheek, and displayed her proudly on one of my 8x8 timbers, under a beautiful assemblage by etsy artist, sewmanyroses.

She just couldn't be happier.

Creative Expression

Instead of talking to my feeble sewing machine, i thought it would be fun to have an online dialogue . I promise to keep the "bleeps" to myself and to my sewing machine. After all, she is used to it!

I am a novice at my craft, having only been creating primitive folk art for two years. I guess after leaving my big girl life behind in search of peace and quiet here in the country, I've become inspired. I had the gift of being a caregiver for my grandfather for three years. He taught me a lot about the important things in life. He had the cutest smile...

I used to write all of the time. Many times, as I would drive down the road, I'd suddenly have to pull a gum wrapper out from the console, or between the seats, to scribble down my own version of short hand for a poem I would write when I reached home.

Now I feel as though my thoughts and feelings have started coming out in more tangible forms. I once read an article about doll making being good for the soul and coming from the heart. I do believe that is true.

So from time to time, I will post a project on route to its destination of completion. Maybe you will learn something from me as I have learned from so many using similar methods. If not, I hope you enjoy my creative meanderings nonetheless.
